Karen and Tony are a dynamic duo who train with Core Results to stay strong, stable, and ready for their favourite hobby — cycling. They joined us with the goal of improving their fitness and rebuilding strength, especially following injury and surgery.
The Challenge
Before joining Core Results, Karen was worried about slowing down. She’d been moving less, had knee issues, and a busy work life that edged out regular exercise. Tony was already active but wasn’t getting the structured support he needed from his old gym.
Karen had suffered a serious cycling accident and later underwent knee surgery — two major setbacks that could’ve derailed her progress. But she was determined to come back stronger.
Why They Nearly Didn't Start
Like many clients, Karen and Tony had their doubts.
Karen wondered if her age and injuries meant she couldn’t get strong again. Tony wasn’t sure if switching gyms would be worth it. They’d both seen the myths around weight training and ageing — and weren’t keen on the “bodybuilding” approach some gyms push.
The Turning Point
Once they joined Core Results, everything changed.
Karen discovered a team that worked closely with her physio to support her recovery, helping her get back to cycling after surgery — and even complete the Maratona route just six months post-op.
Tony found structured, tailored training that complemented his cycling, helping him stay injury-free and smash his sportive goal with a much-improved time.
The Results
Over their time with us, Karen and Tony have achieved:
✅ Rebuilt strength and stability post-injury and surgery
✅ Improved confidence and energy for everyday life
✅ Stronger performance on the bike, including mountain climbs!
Here’s what they had to say:
“For me, training at Core isn’t about achieving a beach body, it’s about feeling strong, being able to live my life well and looking after my health. I’m back cycling and completed the Maratona route only 6 months after surgery!” – Karen
“As one of the more mature (ok – older!) members at Core, I’m convinced of the benefits of weight-based strength training. It’s helped me avoid common cycling aches and improved my time at the Maratona.” – Tony
